What is a dongle?

A copy protection hardware component for license validation. Protected this way, a software can only be used if a dongle is present. Dongle protection is one of the most secure methods to avoid piracy.

Why does SPL use the iLok software protection?

There are a few reasons why we use the iLok system. Primarily to protect our customers against piracy. Thus the purchase of an Analog Code plug-in from SPL is a safe investment.

Furthermore, the iLok software protection is very common in the audio industry. You can dispose of a very broad range of products with one single protection system.

And the iLok offers additional benefits for your license management: you can use your software on any computer – just plug in your iLok and there you go. And, if nothing else, you can insure your licenses against loss or theft.

How does the authorization work?

The iLok software protection requires the iLok USB dongle and the iLok software. There are two things to do if you do not already have an iLok dongle:

Step 1: buy an iLok dongle (most professional audio dealers carry iLok I or iLokII, price $40.00 to $60.00) which can hold over120+ licenses (depends on version) and is used by many manufacturers (Waves, Eastwest, Avid, etc).

Step 2: create an iLok account at www.ilok.com

Now you can download and install the iLok software here. We recommend to always check for updates before you request new licenses.

By creating a new iLok account you get an USER ID. If you wish to get a license for a demo or full version of our plug-ins, we unlock the license for your USER ID.

After we have activated a license in your iLok account you can transfer it from the iLok website to your iLok dongle. Your software can run on any computer now, all you need is to plug in your iLok.

Do I need the iLok for all SPL plug-ins?

The iLok is required for all full versions of the Analog Code plug-ins. The demo versions can be run without iLok for 14 days so that you do not need an iLok for testing our software.

The MicroPlugs can also be authorized without an iLok. As an alternative we offer the Challenge/Response procedure. Advantage: no dongle needed. Disadvantage: The authorization is only valid for one computer configuration. For details on the C/R procedure donwload this PDF file.
